How to Style a Hanging Daybed: Mattress, Pillows, and Blankets

A hanging daybed is the best seat in the yard. Style it right and it becomes the spot everyone fights over. Here is how to dress up our twin hanging bed swing.

Start with the Right Mattress

Our twin hanging bed is sized for a standard twin mattress. For outdoor use, choose a cushion or mattress with a water-resistant outdoor fabric cover and quick-drying foam. A fitted cover with welted edges looks tailored and stays in place when the bed swings.

Add Roll Pillows at Each End

Cylindrical bolster pillows at each end make the bed feel like a sofa, give you something to lean on, and keep smaller pillows from sliding off. Stripes or a solid accent color look great against a medium wood finish.

Layer Square Pillows Along the Back

Two or three square throw pillows against the back rail make it easy to sit up and read. Mix textures, like a chunky knit and a soft linen, in two or three colors that pull from your home or garden.

Finish with a Cozy Blanket

Drape a knit or woven throw across one corner. It looks inviting in photos and it is right there when the evening cools down.

Keep It Looking Great

  • Use outdoor-rated fabrics that resist fading and mildew.
  • Bring pillows and blankets inside during storms or store them in a deck box.
  • Let the mattress dry fully after rain before covering it.
