Standard vs. XL Adirondack Chairs: Which Size Is Right for You?

An Adirondack chair is one of those pieces you buy once and use for years, so getting the size right matters. We build two sizes: our standard chair and our XL chair. Here is how to choose.

The Standard Adirondack Chair

The standard chair is the classic Adirondack: a low, relaxed seat, a slatted fan back, and wide flat armrests big enough for a drink or a plate. It fits nearly any patio, deck, or fire pit circle.

Choose standard if:

  • You are filling a fire pit circle with four to six chairs
  • Your patio or porch is on the smaller side
  • You want a timeless look that works anywhere

The XL Adirondack Chair

Our XL chair is built roomier, with a wider seat and a taller back. It is the chair people sink into and do not want to get out of.

Choose XL if:

  • You or your guests are tall or broad-shouldered
  • You want room to sit sideways, curl up, or share with a kid or a dog
  • You have the space for a statement piece on a porch or patio

Should You Add an Ottoman?

Our curved, slatted ottomans are made to match each chair size. Pull one up and an Adirondack chair turns into a lounger. Ottomans are a great add-on if you plan to read, nap, or spend long evenings outside. They also slide out of the way when you need the space.

Mixing Sizes Works

You do not have to pick just one. Plenty of customers order one standard and one XL so each person gets the chair that fits them, then finish both the same so the pair still looks like a matched set.

Quick Decision Guide

Standard = classic fit, easy to group, great for fire pits

XL = extra room, extra comfort, a statement piece

Add an ottoman = if you want to put your feet up
